Obesity Research Center Concludes “Clinicians in Obesity” Program with Participation of Over 20 Physicians
The Obesity Research Center (ORC) at the College of Medicine, King Saud University, has concluded the inaugural edition of its “Clinicians in Obesity” program, with the participation of more than 20 physicians from various medical specialties. The initiative reflects the center’s ongoing efforts to strengthen specialized clinical expertise in obesity diagnosis and treatment while keeping pace with the latest scientific and therapeutic advancements in the field.
The program was designed to equip healthcare practitioners with modern knowledge and practical skills in obesity management through advanced diagnostic approaches, evidence-based pharmacological therapies, and the evolving role of bariatric surgery in treating obesity and its associated complications.
Professor Assim A. Alfadda, Director of the Obesity Research Center, explained that the four-week program was delivered by a distinguished group of consultants and specialists in obesity medicine, contributing to high-quality training and enhanced medical expertise in this growing specialty.
He noted that the curriculum placed particular emphasis on the effectiveness of modern anti-obesity medications, in addition to exploring the advanced role of bariatric surgical interventions in improving patient outcomes and quality of life. He further emphasized that the program aligns with the center’s mission to promote evidence-based clinical practice and strengthen specialized healthcare services.
The launch of the program comes amid growing global concern over obesity as one of the most prevalent chronic diseases, closely linked to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and numerous other health complications. This underscores the importance of specialized training initiatives in supporting national efforts to prevent obesity and reduce its health and economic burden.
The Obesity Research Center continues to advance specialized educational and training initiatives aimed at preparing highly qualified healthcare professionals and fostering research and innovation in obesity medicine, in line with Saudi Vision 2030 goals to enhance healthcare quality and improve quality of life.
